Common questions about percentage vs. flat pricing
What's the difference between flat, percentage-of-spend, and percentage-of-savings pricing?
Flat pricing charges one fixed monthly rate no matter how much you spend or save. Percentage-of-spend tools charge a monthly fee that is a share of the cloud, AI, and SaaS spend they monitor. Your bill for the tool rises as your infrastructure bill rises. Percentage-of-savings tools charge a share of the savings they claim to have found. That savings figure can be hard to audit. It also rewards the tool for taking credit for savings you would have made anyway.
Why would a percentage-based cost tool cost more as I grow?
The fee is a fraction of a number that rises as your infrastructure scales. That number is your spend, or the savings worked out from it. A tool that monitors $2M/mo in cloud spend at 2.5% costs $50,000 a month. The fee does not depend on how much work the tool does, or on what the tool costs to run.
Are the percentage rates in this tool real numbers from specific vendors?
